With each event seeing an increase in numbers, I think we can say the 2013 inaugural season was a descent effort really. Each event was a great laugh, held in nice sunshine and Armstrong only won 1 out of 3 of the events. All good then really!
Event One was held at short notice up at HillTop GC. There was a superb battle for honours between Chris Etheridge and Dave Armstrong with Chris holding strong on the last to win narrowly.
Event Two was held in the scorching heat at Ingon Manor. Dave Armstrong’s incessant practicing paid-off this time and he managed to secure victory here. Bucko and Dave Tobin managing to take nearest and longest respectively.
The Third event was played on a beautiful day in October over at the Swindon GC. A great turn-out for this one with 14 players. John Berry’s Ernie Els-like swing had everyone a little worried but Andy Watts took a norrow win from Ross Taylor with a handicap destroying 36points. Again, Bucko seemed to like the little ones and was very close to every hole. A worrying trend. Dave Armstrong, obviously, had to win something and grabbed a very lucky Longest drive victory. Albeit, by moving the competition to a hole he managed to find the fairway on. Outrageous.
Off the course, I had intended to organize a couple of events down at Romilly Ave to raise a few quid for the BTOBS. However, trying to set this up on-the-run only just worked for the actual golf and the social side never got off the ground. I hope to sort that for 2014. Dave Tobin and Gwynny Jones promised to hold a quiz night for me and I’d like to have a summer-time BBQ & Target Golf shoot-out on the ground. As always, numbers committed to turning up will be the key!
